We provide hunger-free weekends!

For food-insecure children, leaving school on Fridays brings uncertainty about whether they’ll have a meal over the weekend. The PACK feeding program bridges the hunger gap for thousands of children, who sometimes experience anxiety and stress over weekends and holidays because the nutritional support they receive via school breakfast and lunch is no longer guaranteed. Up to seven meals could be missed between Friday and Monday. Hunger has a devastating effect on every area of a child’s life.

PACK provides 5,400 weekend meal bags to students at 42 schools and community centers each week. Each bag is filled with nutritious, easy-to-prepare, shelf-stable food intended to sustain a child when school meals are not available. Handwritten notes, placed in every bag, remind our children that their community loves and cares about them. Improvements in grades, health, behavior, and overall well-being are typically recognized when nutritional needs are met.

Sadly, there are currently 2,000 children on our waiting list. $200 is the cost to provide the security of a bag of food to one child for an entire school year. Please consider partnering with us to make a difference for hungry children in our community. When hunger is not a concern, children can return to school on Monday healthy, happy, and ready to learn!

According to Feeding America, one in four children in coastal Georgia suffers from food insecurity.
For children, food insecurity is particularly devastating. Not having enough healthy food can seriously affect a child’s physical and mental health, academic achievement, and future economic prosperity. Research shows an association between food insecurity and delayed development in young children; risk of chronic illnesses like asthma and anemia; and behavioral problems like hyperactivity, anxiety, and aggression in school-age children.
The PACK feeding program is tackling childhood hunger head-on. PACK currently provides 4,600+ weekend food bags each week to local school children. Each bag contains enough food to sustain a child over the weekend when school breakfast and lunch are unavailable. Our immediate goal is to expand our reach to more than 2000 kids on our waiting list.
Our impact is only possible with generous funding and dedicated volunteers from our community.
