According to Feeding America, one in four children in coastal Georgia suffers from food insecurity.
For children, food insecurity is particularly devastating. Not having enough healthy food can seriously affect a child’s physical and mental health, academic achievement, and future economic prosperity. Research shows an association between food insecurity and delayed development in young children; risk of chronic illnesses like asthma and anemia; and behavioral problems like hyperactivity, anxiety, and aggression in school-age children.
The PACK feeding program is tackling childhood hunger head-on. PACK currently provides 4,600+ weekend food bags each week to local school children. Each bag contains enough food to sustain a child over the weekend when school breakfast and lunch are unavailable. Our immediate goal is to expand our reach to more than 2000 kids on our waiting list.
Our impact is only possible with generous funding and dedicated volunteers from our community.
